Craven County is offering food assistance as part of Hurricane Florence relief efforts. This program works like the so called “food stamps” program (there are no food stamps; you get a pre-funded card that works like a debit card), but many people can qualify for the food assistance who are not on the need based food stamps program. As an example, my paralegal went by the DSS offices (near the BK on Neuse Blvd) this morning, filled out minimal paperwork, and qualified for almost $350 in food assistance. It is not something to let pride get in the way when the storm legitimately flooded your home or rented apartment, etc!
